Christian Dergarabedian introduces himself as the original yet forgotten
founder of Reynols, though for me he's always been recognized as the
main man behind excellent Argentinian combo Lens Cleaner Trio. Wherever
he roamed across two continents, he's never stopped doing music. He spends
the European period of his career running two projects - C.D. and Earzumba.
Listening
to "Un Piano en la Garganta" by C.D. for the first time,
it occurred to me mind that Christian had seriously taken the name
of the label he was to record for. His music is droning! A big surprise
for those who know his previous output! Neverthless, it's a change
for the better! The 7'' features two blocks of droning flushes that
rise and fall in slow motions giving a suggestive impression of sound
circles that reverb lonely, or interfere abruptly with each other,
which results in quite violent and noisy moments. Generally, the sound
is profound, almost metallic, not really dynamic, but massive, and
simultaneously spacey. The label aptly described it as The Hafler Trio
meets Brume, which's a good match in my opinion...
Earzumba
seems to be an heir to the former sound of C.D. Although reissued in
2004, two albums "Hermos Movimiento" and "Florece Escondido" originally
released in 2001 under C.D. moniker are labelled as two premiere albums
of Earzumba (both available at http://yovibro.tripod.com.ar). "Playback
Emotivo" 3" reminds me a bit of the period of Christian's career
when he dealt in plunderphonics a lot. However, it's definitely the
best of all. It starts off with some catchy jungle rhythms to skip
slightly into thick, slow beats. A little surprise awaits just round
the corner - "Mozart's Koala Concerto n4." is a cheesy, toy-keyboard
version of J.S. Bach's "Fur Elise"! Another three tracks
blend successfully 1980s raw electro music (think Front 242, Cassandra
Complex), break beats and some sampling. Good, though I miss Lens Cleaner
Trio!
